Healthy Traveling With Pullman Hotels

As a frequent traveller here at The Gentleman Select I know all to well the difficulty in trying to eat and exercise properly whilst always being on the move. It can be so easy to simply grab some fast food and bypass the gym area because you are tired and want to rest up however continuing with those choices can be a slippy road to go down and even harder to come back up. Thankfully one particular brand, Pullman Hotels, is driving forward Wellness Tourism with a passion, aiming to get visitors making healthy choices when they travel. Recently I paid a visit to their stunning site at Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport for an exciting two days of healthy living, exploring their invigorating anti jet lag programme and spending time in the company of its creator and Pullman brand ambassador, Sarah Hoey.

Pullman, part of the Accor Hotels Group, are a stunning range of hotels and resorts that offer stylish and modern accommodation in key locations throughout the world. I arrived at the Paris Roissy CDG building in the afternoon to be warmly greeted by the hotel staff in a very chic, stylish hotel foyer. The decor popped with colours of yellow and green with flashes of metal and airplane ornaments, really a very cool place to be.

After I had checked-in and unpacked in my modern room it was time to get dressed and head downstairs for the first part of my anti jet lag programme. Dinner was served in the ultra sleek Culinary Bazaar restaurant with its open show, immersive kitchen allowing us to see everything being cooked in front of us. A very seasonal, bright orange squash came out to start, bursting with flavour and aromas it was delicious. Next was a vibrant beetroot dish followed by fresh scallops and vegetables, all made using natural ingredients designed to fit seamlessly into a healthy lifestyle for the hotel visitor.

Once dinner had concluded it was back to the bedroom for an early night ahead of my first flow yoga sessions with Sarah Hoey. Now I must admit I’am not a great morning person but for me it was quite the revelation trying yoga for the first time at 8am and before breakfast. It not only awakened the senses but left me feeling extremely energised afterwards. For any visitor checking-in at a Pullman resort they will not only be given the choice of four healthy juices: Detox, Energy-Boost, Age Defence or Balance, but they can combine these with a corresponding work out programme at three levels of beginner, intermediate and advanced. I also thought it was fantastic that these tailored 7 minute programmes appear on the TV in each guests room enabling you to take part in the comfort of your own living space.

From participating in the morning yoga session I honestly couldn’t recommend incorporating it into your travel regime enough. It only takes up a tiny portion of time and doing the stretches are fantastic if you have been sitting on a cramped plane for several hours. Whats more Sarah’s yoga programmes with proper breathing are perfect for relieving stress, something which is so common in this day & age with the high pressured lifestyles we lead.

With our morning, jet lag beating yoga session complete we proceeded upstairs for an active breakfast and to sample the afore mentioned healthy juices.  Along with the roasted grapefruit my favourite had to be the coconut and quinoa pudding. Mixed with some granola it was delicious and ideal alongside the Energy-Boost juice. Once we had finished breakfast it was great to sit down with Sarah and get a real understanding of her passion for healthy living and how she is delivering this through her role with Pullman Hotels. For me the big message was about getting people to exercise and eat well regularly, yet not denying yourself that burger or piece of chocolate should you be craving it. So much of it is just about living, being happy and enjoying life.

Our group chat about healthy living continued for a little longer before it was time to get ready for paddle yoga. This was something I was very much looking forward to having tried paddle boarding previously. Carefully I climbed onto my board, ready to begin. Sarah was fantastic as she began taking us through simple poses, gradually getting more advanced as we went on. The paddle board yoga certainly tests your balance and core muscles much more as you fight against the movement of the water. This was in a swimming pool so I can only imagine the difficulty doing this in the sea like Sarah has done at some of the Pullman resorts.

Having tried paddle yoga it is something I would throughly recommend. If you are a big yoga fan it adds a little extra challenge to the poses you have perhaps nearly mastered on firm ground, more difficult certainly though equally as fun. I did of course attempt a headstand which wasn’t to successful as I rolled off into the swimming pool but again, this is something I probably wouldn’t have tried on the ground.

By this point after a double yoga session I was feeling extremely relaxed and ready for a re-energising post workout lunch. Back upstairs near the Culinary Bazaar a delicious lunch was laid out. Roasted grapefruit and fennel carpaccio, Autumn fruit soup and Venere black rice risotto are just a hint of what was on the table, all created with the expert input from Sarah. It was amazing and educational to see how creative you can be with your lunch options.

The final part of my trip with Pullman Hotels was very insightful indeed. In a private area of the foyer I spent some time one on one with Sarah for a private coaching session. In terms of how I train at the gym and try to eat properly it was fantastic to get her advice on little changes I could incorporate into my routine in order to maximise my results. The time spent with her really was invaluable in which once we had finished, I couldn’t wait to get started both in the gym and the kitchen.

My two days spent at the Pullman Paris Roissy Charles de Gaulle experiencing first hand the benefits of Wellness Tourism were incredible. The work which both Pullman and Sarah are putting in is so impressive along with the passion they have to help people travel and live better. Trying two forms of yoga for the first time was challenging and brilliant fun, something I now have a taste for. I really loved the short 7 minute programmes Sarah has created for hotel visitors. Finding time when we travel seems to be one of our biggest issues however 7 minutes is nothing in which afterwards the benefits you feel are undeniable. In my opinion when you travel next, a Pullman Hotel should be at the top of your list. Along with the very friendly staff and beautiful surroundings, their dedication, along with Sarah to get you living better is on another level and must be experienced.
