Some items of clothing are timeless. A cornerstone of our wardrobe, providing us with carte blanche for which you can build upon and deliver a killer new look. One item which I’m referring to in particular is that of the denim jeans, and furthermore there is one such brand that has nailed what “denim” is better than most, evident in fact they sold one pair of denim jeans every eighteen seconds globally in the past year. This brand is our British favourite Topman.
In the Topman world of denim jeans there is six key fits to choose from, Tapered, the Original, Spray on, Super Spray on, Stretch Slim and the Stretch skinny which I decided to check out for myself. Indeed this a terrifically varied range to choose from, something I feel is incredibly important given we are all built very differently and if you some of you are like me, also extremely fussy when it comes to finding and picking the right fit of denims.
My choice of colour was powder blue in the Stretch skinny denims which immediately when I put them on, I was hugely impressed by the fit. You will find each pair of jeans are made form authentic, rigid denim whilst incorporating stretch technology to ensure they are both comfortable and that they hold their shape. This is a fit which works best for me as my legs are a little chunkier and its also what I’m most comfortable in but again, everybody is different and Topman recognise that. The Stretch skinny has a tapered leg as well which is a favourite feature of mine. I must admit to being a little weird in how I love my denims to sit perfectly above my footwear and these do this very well. Indeed there are so many items of footwear which go with said jeans, trainers to loafers however in this instance I paired them up some darker boots for a relaxed look.
For the top half there are a couple of options to go with here, both of which compliment the denims perfectly and are ideal for this slightly chillier time of year. First up is the Deep Red Raglan jumper. My advice is to go with a lightweight, decent fitting t-shirt underneath. One of the best things about Topman is they really deliver well on slim fit items and this is another perfect example so theres no need to go to heavy with the under layer. The jumper also features a snug crew neck, and along with being a great fit round the sides, is ideal for wearing under a variety of jackets especially with that punchy and vibrant red peaking out from underneath.
Whether you are indoors or just looking to layer up with a few pieces, the Burgundy and Khaki Check Shirt is another great item to match up with your jeans and one which I wanted to incorporate into this outfit next. Whilst I wouldn’t exclude wearing this under the red jumper, I think its a shame to hide away that lovely all over check pattern so in my opinion again I would go with a white t-shirt underneath so you can wear it both open, or give it a smarter, more formal edge and button the neck right up, either way this is a seriously great piece and will look awesome with your chosen colour of denim jeans.
Now I touched on jackets earlier but the final item should be a key building block of your wardrobe along with the denims. Worn the world over by legends of the past such as Steve McQueen and a favourite at The Gentleman Select, it is of course the Navy Harrington jacket. Its an incredibly versatile piece of clothing which works well on so many levels. I found I could pair this with the red jumper on its own for a bold hit of colour, or for a slightly smarter approach, again button up that shirt fully and you are ready for any occasion.
For me denim jeans are an iconic and eternally cool piece of clothing. They are easily the item we wear most, dressing them up or down, throwing them on for speed or planning ahead for a big night out. Delightfully, Topman provide a pair for all situations. A cost friendly range starting at £30, each denim is put through individual wearer trials so you know you are getting the upmost quality too.
