Sharp Tailoring From T.M. Lewin

Sharp Tailoring From T.M. Lewin

Established on London’s famous Jermyn Street in 1898, T.M.Lewin has been helping men dress to impress for over 100 years. Their fantastic e-commerce set-up and some 100 U.K stores, including new sites opening around the world in Europe, Singapore and Australia, offers up a wide and rich variety of high quality shirts, impeccably tailored suits and jackets, with dapper accessories to match. Here at The Gentleman Select I was lucky enough to link-up with this tailoring titan to explore some of their key, new season pieces. Items that are perfect for everyday use, perhaps a special occasion or if you are dressing to impress. T.M.Lewin certainly has it all.

The Suit

If you are a regular reader of The Gentleman Select or perhaps you follow my social media channels, then you will know that tailoring is something I’am slightly obsessed by and hugely passionate about. This was very much a “kid in a candy store” scenario for me as aside from their vast range of shirts, T.M.Lewin also do many absolutely stunning suits in a host of cuts, styles and materials. If you are looking for a two button, 2 piece in sumptuous Ermengildo Zegna wool for example, T.M.Lewin have got you covered. Whilst I actually struggled to pick a favourite with the options being so strong, there was a new season 3 piece suit in particular I kept returning to. It was different, eye catching and felt magnificent from the moment I tried it on.

Designed in Biella, northern Italy, the Lyttelton Slim Fit Suit with its window pane pattern is an absolutely stunning creation. The blue and ginger check is what instantly got my attention along with the ravishing double breasted waistcoat which can be worn underneath the jacket. The suit has a slim fit that sits perfectly on the shoulders and down the legs. Little details such as the hidden credit card pocket and hand-stitching on both the jacket’s sleeve and body linings give the suit a distinct bespoke feel along with its striking paisley lining.

With the Lyttelton Suit being so bold, I wanted to keep the rest of my outfit very simple. A clean, crisp Blue Twill Slim Fit Shirt worked exquisitely with the Barberis Brown Italian Wool Slim Tie at £39.95 and orange pocket square. It incorporates texture and tone with its earthy colour palate, perfect for this time of year. Cap it off with a pair of understated black lace up shoes and you are all set.

For me this suit offers incredible style, versatility and value for money. £319 for a luxuriously crafted three piece is fantastic in which you will look utterly striking when you wear it to your next important work meeting, wedding or big event.

The Smart Casual

Putting together the ideal smart casual outfit is always a winner if you get all the details right. It can be a highly adaptable ensemble that seamlessly fits into occasions such as dinners and even slightly relaxed office wear. The best thing about smart casual however is how well it suits the warmer months of the year such as August and September. Again T.M.Lewin have an abundance of pieces that work on so many levels. To build my outfit I started with an absolute summer cornerstone, the Radcliffe Stone Chino priced at £59.95. Crafted by Milan’s prestigious Larusmiani brand they are slim cut and feature a tiny bit of stretch making them flexible and extremely comfortable. I had these tapered ever so slightly and shortened just to show a little bit of ankle when wearing some fresh white trainers or in my case, tasseled loafers.

T.M. Lewin New Season

To go with the chinos I selected the Slim Sky Blue Diamond Weave Shirt. Coming in at £59.95 and made from premium Egyptian cotton, this is a fantastic business casual piece especially when worn as an open collar. The subtle diamond weave pattern adds a lovely bit of texture to the overall outfit and works in unison with the chinos nicely. As a light layering piece, the Infinity Navy Button Neck Jumper at £50.00 is the ideal accompaniment and one I was quickly drawn to. This crease-resistant, wool blend item fits perfectly over any shirt and sits close to the body meaning you don’t sacrifice flexibility or suffer any ruffling of excess material. The three buttons look fantastic un-done to reveal that relaxed, open collar shirt underneath.

The final item I picked to complete this outfit is the Thornton Jacket in Navy Larusmiani Cotton priced at £159. It features a half-lined construction which gives the jacket a much lighter feel, perfect for layering on top of the shirt and jumper during the early evening hours when having al fresco dinner and drinks. I actually really love the slim-cut of this piece as well with the slant pockets on either side enhancing its tailored silhouette further. Really a perfect all-round smart casual outfit and one you cant go wrong with.

The Statement Piece

If you have an occasion coming up in the near future where you really want to stand out from the crowd then a great statement piece is the ideal way to do so. For me T.M.Lewin have delivered the perfect options for this in their new Liberty Fabrics Collection. Teaming up with the iconic London printmaker, they have produced a fantastic, multicoloured range of shirts and accessories which just blew me away the minute I saw them. Funky floral patterns, Paisley swirls and Little Marquess print, merged with T.M.Lewin’s renowned luxury Egyptian cotton are just a hint of whats available. What I particularly love about this range is how there is options for everybody. For the shirts you can go full flower power with your chosen print all over, or you can go for a softer approach displaying little hints of those beautiful patterns on the inside cuffs and collar. The accessories are a simple, yet stunning addition for injecting vibrance and colour into any understated shirt or suit in the most stylish and subtle way.

My pick from the Liberty Collection was the Lee Manor pocket square and print tie. This £44.95 beauty, like the pocket square, is made from luxurious and super soft Tana Lawn cotton and features deep blue tones in an intricate paisley pattern that stand out majestically against a brilliant white, slim fitting shirt. With the accessories being so bold I decided to keep the rest of the outfit very simple in which the Bourne Skinny Fit Power Stretch Suit in navy priced at £249 was the ideal choice. Featuring a lovely close fitting cut, modern, sleek lines and sharp lapels, it was perfect for accentuating the liveliness of the Liberty tie and pocket square. My advice would be to also get the suit you buy all measured and sized properly, something again T.M.Lewin will expertly do. To finish off this punchy outfit a clean pair of black shoes will do the trick. Even if the weather has turned slightly or the sun has went down, this is an outfit that will keep those lush hints of summer alive.

T.M.Lewin is a brand that offers style and quality in abundance. The new season pieces currently available really are perfect for the varying social occasions and weather conditions we find ourselves within on a regular basis. I love the fact you can browse online or walk into your nearest T.M.Lewin store and put together several complete outfits made with materials and fabrics from some of the best mills in the world. Even better still the price point is incredibly good value for money. Whether you a looking for a seriously cool suit, a smart casual outfit or statement piece for your next drinks soirée, make your next stop T.M.Lewin.
