We’ve finally made it. 2018 is here and if getting fit and doing a little more exercise is part of your new years resolution then I have the perfect clothing accompaniment to go with it. The stylish and functional items of British Vintage Boxing.┬áRarely does a brand come along which instantly grabs my attention here at The Gentleman Select. One which captures an essence of classic Britain and ruggedness.

British Vintage Boxing specifically draws inspiration from the classic, hard working, boxing enthusiasts of yesteryears all of which are re-lived through some seriously cool items. Specifically they are two ranges available, the BVB range and the Henry Cooper range which sees the brand as official merchandiser and producer of limited edition items which celebrate this British sporting icon, gentleman and sir’s glittering career through the glory years of the 1950’s early 60’s.

I decided to look at the BVB core range, specifically the retro and brilliant looking crew neck sweatshirt in light grey. The first thing you notice about this piece is the vibrant red writing of “British Vintage Boxing 1963” across the front, something I can imagine on the walls of a rustic, old school boxing gym as fighters train away in the foreground. It has a distinct rocky-esq appearance about it, embodying that vintage training sweatshirt and its emergence around the 1920’s. These details in fact are spot on as the brand has delved into the boxing archives to resurrect some of these iconic British sporting graphics and bring them into the 21st century.

As I slipped the sweatshirt on I found it very comfortable to wear. This is thanks to the super high quality grey marl brushed back fleece used in the manufacturing process in Portugal, a country renowned for producing high quality goods, you know BVB have went all out to bring you truly great quality. The sweatshirt is also a great fit with room for either a short or long sleeve garment underneath, perfect for some sweat inducing training and absorbing it all up thereafter. I went for a size medium in which being 5’11 in height, worked perfectly for me. The sweatshirt also has a lovely contrast of the light grey then a slightly darker grey on the neck, cuffs and around the waistband, terrifically capped off by the BVB embroidered badge on the sleeve.

For me what British Vintage Boxing have to offer is an absolutely fantastic range which is a perfect blend of tradition, function and style. My advice would be to complete the set and go for a pair of the matching BVB sweatpants and get the light grey t-shirt to wear underneath it. They also have a really neat zip through hoodie which is an ideal alternative for when your sweatshirt is in the wash. BVB is a refreshing fitness range and takes us away from the generic, repetitiveness of high tech garments. It says simply get up, throw on a sweatshirt and get out there and exercise. The old fashioned way!
