As we go about our daily lives we constantly change between smart and casual outfits. From dress trousers to jeans. Tailored blazers to leather jackets, we are always altering our look. There is however an item which we wear consistently, everyday, without fail, well at least most of us do… I’am of course talking about underwear. The first item you put on in the morning and the last thing you take off at night, it is imperative your underwear is super comfortable. One brand which is delivering exactly this is Hamilton and Hare in which recently I was lucky enough to check out some stand out pieces in their very relaxing, luxurious range.
Hamilton and Hare was born in 2012 as the idea of Olivia Francis, a London born and bred entrepreneur who spotted the lack of choice for men in well-fitting, high quality boxer shorts. What started out as a project to redesign the traditional boxing short worn by fighters in the ring, has evolved into a well established luxury underwear and loungewear line which counts many celebrities as a fan.
To get a feel for what the Hamilton and Hare range was like, I selected two key pieces which men wear almost daily for consideration here on The Gentleman Select. Boxer Shorts and the Tubular Crew Neck t-shirt in navy. On opening the packaging and removing the Boxer Shorts, I could immediately feel the quality in what I was holding. Each pair is made from the finest 100% two-ply twill cotton meaning they are incredibly soft on the skin. Looking closer, the detail in these boxers is equally as marvellous. An elasticated waistband with small Hamilton and Hare patch nods to the old school fighting shorts, whilst also being functional in how it contributes to a perfect fit and prevents that irritating situation of your boxers riding up throughout the day.
Down the front there is a single button fly made from natural corozo nut that slips perfectly through a custom-made, triple stitch hole for a premium finish. For me one of my favourite features of the Hamilton and Hare Boxer Shorts is the side slit detail which allows fantastic flexibility and movement range for your legs without excess baggy material gathering and ruffling should you be wearing them under a slimmer cut denim or trousers. During the course of a busy day or simply lounging around the house, these boxer shorts really are perfect for whatever environment you wear them in.
For matching up with the boxers I slipped on the soft and stylish Tubular Crew Neck Tee in Navy. Available in three colours and a v-neck option, this is in my opinion the ultimate loungewear item to have in your wardrobe. Made from 100% cotton on an 8 yarn tubular loom, the resulting product is a uniquely structured t-shirt with an incredible “light as a feather” feel to it. On the body the t-shirt sits very close thanks to the contour paneling and seam free technology in which along with the open weave pique mesh, delivers fantastic breathability making it perfect for wearing underneath a shirt or even sleeping in.
Having worn some of the key products from the Hamilton and Hare range throughout the day and at home I was hugely impressed. The Tubular t-shirt is just perfection, the pinnacle of homely loungewear and something I found myself living in at home. In the past I’ve tried tailored boxers shorts which were extremely constricting and offered no range of movement. Hamilton and Hare’s are nothing like this. Super comfortable and an absolute joy to wear I would happily stock up in a multitude of colours and patterns. I love that the website also offers a bespoke monograming service, perfect if you are looking for a special gifting idea for a loved one. If you want to seriously up your underwear and loungewear game you should look no further than Hamilton and Hare. Visit the website here to stock up now.
